it is the year 2024 and so many questions still need answering...

is there a dependency in design?

how does form influence our perception of furniture?
how does texture? and what about color?
which element holds the greatest impact in design?
which element evokes the largest reaction in a viewer?

can you have one without the other and still create a captivating piece?
if so, where should i, as a designer, contribute my time?

in my earlier years as a design student, i placed so much emphasis on the form furniture took, believing that innovation in furniture solely came from shape. this became such a constant in my design practice that i began to disregard finishing materials and application, leaving it as an afterthought to the piece. to dissuade this way of thinking, i challenged myself to investigate how much influence color, texture and form can hold on their own, compared to when all elements are equally considered. thus, "12 in 24" was established in an effort to discover the variations in reactions, perceptions and interactions these elements hold. feel free to follow along as i make 12 chairs in the year 2024 in hopes of discovering some of my questions' answers.
